What do you need to know about safeguarding as a Trustee?

Having safeguards in place within an organisation not only protects and promotes the welfare of children but also it enhances the confidence of trustees, staff, volunteers, parents/carers and the general public.

'Trustees of charities which work with vulnerable groups, must always act in their best interests and ensure they take all reasonable steps to prevent harm to them.' Charity Commission 2016.

Aimed at people who are trustees of charities and other not for profit organisations. This is an introductory session that will enable participants to gain an understanding of the term safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults, as well as how it applies to managing charities and non-profit organisations. You will also gain awareness of the requirements and expectations of your role as a trustee in relation to safeguarding. 

What will participants gain from attending?

  • participants will understand the roles and responsibilities of Trustees
  • participants will understand the legal and financial responsibilities of trustees
  • raised awareness of safeguarding issues
  • understand the responsibilities of trustees in regard to safeguarding staff and service users
  • understand key issues and terminology in regard to safeguarding
